5 Tips To A More Enjoyable Flight

The weary parents in the next row have given their noisy kids free reign on your flight! Flying can be a drag when others are not considerate, but more than that, it can take a toll on you physically. Read on for pointers to help make flying a bit more comfortable.
Stretch & Relax
Studies suggest prolonged inactivity as a cause of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), the formation of blood clots in deep veins –usually in the legs. DVT symptoms include swelling and pain at the back of your leg or below the knee. To help keep DVT at bay, stretch your legs regularly or take a short stroll every hour or so. Alternatively, get a pair of compression socks sold at pharmacies, no one will see them under your pants!
Equalize Pressure
To equalize the pressure in your eyes, try swallowing, yawning, sucking on candy or chewing gum. If you are traveling with little ones, bring sweets or a pacifier for them to suck on to help them clear their ears, especially during take-off and descent.
Sleep Smart
To counter jet-lag, sleep as much as you like when flying west to east. You may want to get an airline comfort kit, which comes with eye shade, neck pillow and blanket. If you're flying east to west, stay awake as much as possible. A simple neck pillow will help you get comfy.
Forget Contact Lenses
Throw vanity out the window and opt for spectacles instead of contacts to keep your eyes from becoming dry. Don’t worry, you'll probably end up sleeping with your mouth open some time during the flight, so what’s a pair of granny glasses compared to drool?
Stay Hydrated
Airplane air is extremely dry so avoid caffeinated, carbonated and alcoholic drinks as these can dehydrate you further. Instead, sip water and juices regularly – at least 8 ounces every hour.
Remember, every trip is an adventure. Make the most of it!
