After a decade-long absence, the Twin Cities Polish Festival is back, bringing together Minnesotans to celebrate Polish culture and heritage. The new first annual Twin Cities Polish Festival promises to immerse Minnesotans in "all things Polish", presenting a kaleidoscope of unique cultural and educational displays, food and top-notch entertainment.
Bring a blanket, take a seat on the lawn along the Old Main Street in Minneapolis, watch outstanding musical and dance entertainment, enjoy traditional foods and beverages, and just simply have fun! Exhibits include:
- Contemporary Architecture of Warsaw - an exhibition presenting photos of 20 of the most interesting properties and architectural details of buildings built in the Polish metropolis during the last decade.
- John Rajtar - a representative sampling of Polish folk art, including pisanki (painted Easter eggs) and wycinanki (paper cutouts). Staff and students of the Adam Mickiewicz Polish Saturday School will be on hand to talk about Polish folk art and its role in the traditional Polish culture.
- Polish Poster Art from the 1970’s and 80’s - ‘Read between the lines’ of a series of Polish posters that reflect the creative, innovative and even satirical themes influenced by the ideas of Art Nouveau. These posters offer something personal about the artists and often involve social commentary beyond the events being advertised.
- Awangarda Polish Lowland Sheepdogs - Polski Owczarek Nizinny The Polish Lowland Sheepdog is the national dog of Poland. The PON is a non-shedding dog with a dense undercoat that requires careful grooming. These dogs are naturally suspicious of strangers but are very protective of and dedicated to their families.
There will be Polka and Cultural stages, a Chopin Celebration, and a whole lot more. For more information visit the Twin Cities Polish Festival website.
