Girlfriend Getaways in Missouri

Most people think girlfriend getaways are for warm, summer months, but that's not always so! Just because it's cold outside doesn't mean you and the girls can't get away for a little indoor fun. Not only do many Missouri attractions offer group opportunities and rates, but more and more are offering special girls-only events and packages.

For example, Loganberry Inn in Fulton offers multiple packages for girlfriend retreats. Chocolate for Chicks celebrates the joy of chocolate with a cup of homemade hot chocolate and a fresh-baked cookie upon arrival, followed up by a chocolate martini before bed. A breakfast of double chocolate waffles, a chocolate tasting and wine pairing class, and a chocolate dessert buffet are offered the next day. Spa packages are also available.

The Inn at Harbour Ridge at Lake of the Ozarks, offers girlfriend weekends including goody bags, appetizers at arrival, a late-night pizza party, breakfast both mornings and options for transportation to the Osage Beach Premium Outlet Malls, spa time, or mini makeovers and foot massages.

The Raphael Hotel in Kansas City also offers a Girlfriends Getaway package. It includes one night in a spacious suite with two bedrooms and two baths, a pajama party complete with margaritas, pizza, popcorn, chocolates, breakfast, a movie rental from the hotel's "chick flicks" library and use of board games, and a disposable camera.

Scrapbooking is a top activity among girlfriends, so why not sneak away to your very own scrapbooking retreat? The Dickey House Bed & Breakfast, www.DickeyHouse.com, in Marshfield offers scrapbooking weekends with your girlfriends that include a room with lots of windows and light and a scrapbook store just two minutes away. The Dickey House also offers murder mystery weekends for the non-scrapbookers.

Koinania Cottage in Black, www.KoinaniaCottage.com, also offers a scrapbooker's haven including a choice of cottages, depending on the group size, with tables ready for you to dive into your work. An added amenity that only a scrapbooker will truly enjoy, a tabletop lamp for each person. Koinania Cottage also makes a great spring or summer retreat because it's located less than 20 miles from Elephant Rocks and Johnson's Shut-Ins State Parks.

Learn a new skill or activity, like rock climbing at Upper Limits, www.UpperLimits.com/stlouis, in St. Louis where groups can learn the very basics of rock climbing on the 10,000-square-foot sculpted wall. Prefer to keep your feet on the ground?

Third Degree Glass Factory, also in St. Louis, www.ThirdDegreeGlassFactory.com, offers classes from beginner to advanced in glassblowing, flameworking and kilnworking. Other classes teach glass flower making, jewelry making and kiln carving.

Looking for a fun girlfriends' event? Then head to Washington, Mo., for the annual Girlfriends Shopping Weekend, Feb. 5-6, www.WashMo.org. Girlfriends can stay at the Sleep Inn on Friday night and enjoy an evening of wine-tasting and appetizers, along with a chair massage, reflexology, facials, caricature artist, and a chick-flick. Continental breakfast on Saturday morning is available before you head out to shop all over Washington with a shopping scavenger hunt to complete and a tote bag full of coupons and freebies to use.

Wineries and wine trails are always a good choice for a day trip or an entire weekend. Find a wine trail near you at www.MissouriWine.org or create your own wine trail with wineries in your area.

One event you and your girlfriends are sure to love is the Chocolate Wine Trail held annually in the Hermann area, www.HermanWineTrail.com. Taste scrumptious desserts like white chocolate bread pudding with white chocolate pear sauce paired with a glass of Vignoles at Stone Hill Winery, just one of six stops on this trail scheduled for Feb. 20-21.

Shopping is always a favorite among girlfriends. If you want boutique shopping, check out the historic district in Hannibal, www.VisitHannibal.com, Historic Main Street in St. Charles, www.HistoricStCharles.com, Old Town Cape riverfront district in Cape Girardeau, www.VisitCape.com, the Central West End in St. Louis, www.TheCWE.org, or the River Market area in Kansas City, www.KansasCityRiverMarket.com.

Whether you are getting out of town, or just having some fun where you call home, call up your girls and start planning your next girlfriend get-together. For more fun ideas, go to www.VisitMO.com.
