Statue of Liberty Crown Reopens to Public

Visitors to the Statue of Liberty can now get back inside her head, literally. The Statue of Liberty's crown has been closed since 9/11 for security and safety reasons. On July 4, 2009 the National Park Service reopened Liberty's crown to visitors.
Reservations for available dates can be made through the park's ferry concessioner, Statue Cruises, at www.statuecruises.com or by phone at 877-LADY-TIX (877-523-9849).
About the Statue of Liberty
Located on 12 acre Liberty Island, the Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World was a gift of friendship from the people of France to the people of the United States and is a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. The Statue of Liberty was dedicated on October 28, 1886, designated as a National Monument in 1924 and restored for her centennial on July 4, 1986.

Audio Tours
There are also audio tours available for The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, available as downloadable podcasts for a fee of $8. For that price, you get an audio tour that includes Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty Island and inside the monument.
