STOWE, VT–(Marketwire — September 21, 2009) — Green Mountain Inn, a historic landmark nestled in Vermont’s Stowe village, has many new family-friendly activity choices in the surrounding areas to attract visitors to this home away from home. Some of their suggested activities for fall include visiting Lake Champlain, enjoying exercise and leisure in the great outdoors, and checking out the many local entertainment venues.

Nearby Lake Champlain, the sixth largest lake in the U.S. surpassed only by the Great Lakes, is celebrating the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain’s arrival in 1609. Families and friends can ride the ferries and view Lake Champlain’s spectacular vistas from Charlotte to Essex, Burlington to Plattsburgh or Grand Isle to Cumberland Head. Popular activities include kite-boarding, windsurfing, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, cycling, running, walking or rollerblading on the lake or along its bike path. Visitors can also explore the history and wonders of the lake at the ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center or the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum.

There are horse drawn wagon rides at the Shelburne Farms and historical tours at the Shelburne Museum. The Birds of Vermont Museum in Huntington, Lake Champlain Chocolates tour in Burlington and Magic Hat Brewery in South Burlington are also popular attractions. The Vermont Teddy Bear factory in Shelburne and Ben & Jerry’s factory tour in Waterbury are great for kids, and everyone will enjoy watching Vermont’s finest cheese being made at Cabot Creamery.

The Green Mountain Inn may be known as a Stowe, Vermont skiing destination, but there are many outdoor activities in the summer and fall as well. Hiking is particularly popular, as well as biking, golfing and tennis. Nature lovers can ride the gondola to Mount Mansfield’s Cliff House, explore Smuggler’s Notch, enjoy Stowe’s scenic bike path, and much more.

For art and culture lovers, numerous theatre and music venues are available such as Very Merry Theater and Vermont Stage Company in Burlington, Lamoille County Players in Hyde Park, St. Michael’s Playhouse in Colchester and Stowe Theatre Guild. And the list goes on.
