ELDRED, Pa. - There is perhaps no better way to spend Veteran’s Day than to go to a place that celebrates Veteran’s Day every day.

The Eldred World War II Museum, located at 201 Main St., is making that gesture a little easier on the wallet this year by offering free admission on Wednesday, Nov. 11 – Veteran’s Day.

The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Eldred, Pa., within a few hours drive from Buffalo, N.Y., and Pittsburgh.

While the Borough of Eldred may not be well-known, it was the site of a British and American munitions plant during World War II. The plant produced eight million bombs, mortar shells and fuses. Workers, which numbered as many as 1,500, worked 24 hours a day from January 1942 to May 1945 in support of the war effort.

The Eldred World War II Museum, which opened in 1996, is dedicated to the memory of the U.S. fighting forces and the 40 million people on the home front who provided the soldiers with the materials they needed to fight.
